Fashion Design Contest : Theme "Malaysian Traditional + Avant Garde"
I have been working in an event management company in KL since 2001. Throughout these years, we have planned, organised, conceptualised numerous events, launches, promotions and exhbitions in East and West Malaysia.
However, organising this contest was really exciting.
For this particular event, we conducted a joint venture program with a local fashion design college.
The theme selected was "Malaysian Traditional + Avant Garde". The contestants were really creative and full of imagination. Items that were related to Malaysian Traditional theme such as batik, orchids, hibiscus, kebaya, songket, wau or kite, gasing or top and even ropes. Their design and creativities were really fantastic as those items were turned into fascinating costumes and apparels.
After getting the confirmation of sponsorship for the cash prizes for the winners, securing the venue, inviting local designers and celebrities as judges, we proceed towards setting up the stage, lightings on the eve of the big day.
One matter that kept me worry for almost a week was rain, as we have selected an outdoor venue at Bukit Bintang to rund the event, I almost wanted to call a "bomoh" or priest to pray away the rain. Luckily, came that day, the weather was excellent. The sky was clear. The whole event kicked off perfectly, with the arrival of guests, judges and VIPs. The deejay spinned fantastic musics and the contest took place with the models parading the "masterpieces" created by the contestants.
